Mouse in My House

April 7, 2011

There once was a girl named Carrie White
A mouse jumped on her bed one night
that little mouse gave her a scare
she jumped, she screamed, and ran out of there.
her mom said, “carrie what’s wrong?”
but it was too late she was long gone.
Carrie jumped on the couch and said with a cry,
“that little mouse must die!”
Her mom said, “shut your yap,
tomorrow we will set a trap,
then that mouse will be dead,
so say goodnight and go to bed!”

Carrie White age 12. (25 years ago)

St. Paul, Minn. — Best-known as the frontman for Dinosaur Jr., J Mascis is–somewhat surprisingly–laconic and soft-spoken. In interviews, he is known for his minimal responses and repeated disdain for enthusiasm. Besides Dinosaur Jr., Mascis has played in a number of other noisy, dense bands including Witch, Sweet Apple and Deep Wound.

His first acoustic solo effort, “Several Shades of Why,” is a far cry from his previous collection of guitar- and voice-shredding anthems. On this album, he collaborated with Kurt Vile (who he’s currently touring with), Broken Social Scene’s Kevin Dre, and Band of Horses’ Brian Bidwell to produce a delicate record that showcases his versatility as a singer, guitarist and songwriter.

Songs performed: “Listen To Me,” “Several Shades Of Why” and “Little Fury Things.”

Seriously? It’s like you’re Photoshopped! LOVE it. Gotta see it! Ryan Gosling…that is all.

Letter Of Note of the Day: Upon learning that Andrew Scott, director of the National Railway Museum in York, was due to retire, 6-year-old Sam Pointon offered himself up as the perfect successor. “I have an electrick [sic] train track,” he wrote in his application.

While the museum thought Sam was tad too young to take the lead, they did appoint him Director of Fun. “I love it. It is good fun,” Sam said shortly after starting his new job. “My favourite is the steam engine, I like it when the wheels go round.”
