French filmmaker/artist Vincent Moon, aka Mathieu Saura, has come a long way since the debut of his game-changing “Take Away Show” videos, which have portrayed dozens of top artists, as well as up-and-comers, performing live in varied — sometimes unusual or unwieldy — environments to brilliant effect. (A personal fave is his work with The National.) Now in addition to directing aconcert film for Arcade Fire, among other post-Blogotheque projects, Moon will unveil his latest feature-length: An Island, a film that follows the Danish bandEfterklang as they collaborate with over 200 local musicians, kids, and parents over the course of 4 days in their home country.

Watch a stunning clip from the film, which premieres this month at various screenings, above. Also, you might want to read a new, somewhat scandalous interview with Moon that’s been making the rounds, in which he sounds off on his frustration with Arcade Fire members, his distaste for music coming from the U.S./U.K., and why he might retire from making “images,” here.

Even now I’m scared about how sappy this’ll look in print, saying this. And the effort to actually to do it, not just talk about it, requires a kind of courage I don’t seem to have yet.

Do you like it? Or do you trendy like it? There’s a difference, and that difference is honesty. Don’t be a poser.
