It’s pretty much a no brainer that packing to move is on everyone’s top 10 worst things to do in a lifetime. Packing is probably the most tedious experience and only second to worrying about the actual move. Will the movers show up? Will they move furniture with care? If one thing is off it could screw up the whole experience. Moving is horrible but if done well and in a timely fashion it offers many benefits.

It’s the perfect time to get rid of all the junk that hasn’t been used, worn or even looked at in years. PURGE is the key when packing to move. Everything that hasn’t been worn in a year should be thrown out. Start early enough so there is plenty of time to really organize. Go through the medicine cabinet, books and magazines, and kitchen utensils. Are they old, rusty, expired? They must go! Before the big purge why not pull out the gently used items that are hiding in the back of the closet and donate them.

When packing up the house, there are a few tricks that will keep the packing experience organized. cardboard boxes are great, but clear containers are ideal. Not only can the items inside be seen, the containers are sturdy and last forever. This is also great for kitchen items. Not only will the items be visible, but it will make the next move even easier. Check out kitchen organizers at Storables.com. These durable containers are a perfect way to keep the kitchen really organized. When packing with old boxes gotten from a dumpster behind the grocery store they may also be home to unwanted creatures such as cockroaches. Containers can be stacked and stored or used for other things; just slap on a new label, “Holiday Decorations” perhaps.

The move will go much faster if items that are to be moved are labeled. Labeling and grouping items is very helpful for the movers. The easiest way to label boxes is to write which room on a piece of packing tape, then stick it to the container. That way the labels can be easily removed. Also keep the movers in mind when packing the boxes. Overpacking boxes makes them too heavy to move. Smaller containers are the way to go.

The night before the move leave one box open for any “left-behinds” you find at the last minute. Toiletries and laundry can also be thrown in the box before leaving the house. Be sure to mark the box “Open First”.

Moving can be tedious, but when starting early and planning ahead it doesn’t have to be. The more moving one does the easier it gets. Think of it as a new adventure and focus on the positive and you’ll be guaranteed an easy moving experience.

If you haven’t heard of Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, then you are missing one of the best web series which is distributed digitally by Crackle and hosted by Jerry Seinfeld. The show follows Jerry as he picks up a fellow comedian in a fancy vintage car and takes them to a coffee shop for some breakfast and good conversation. Such comedians as David Letterman, Amy Schumer, Jon Stewart, and Jimmy Fallon have joined Jerry. It’s a fun ride and interesting insight on what the life of a comedian is like. They often talk shop and it’s always hysterical and although the cars are beautiful they seem to always break down. The show is also sponsored by Acura and the product placement spots on the show are pretty funny and turns out that’s due to Jerry’s creative input.

Jerry is known for being a car lover and some of the cars you see on the show are actually his cars. Jerry has a passion for Porsche’s and owns 47. Jerry built a $1.4 million garage to house his huge collection that is worth an estimated $15 million. He also employs a private mechanic.

When you’re worth over $800 million you pretty much can afford any car whether it is vintage or new. There are quite a few celebrities who have a passion for classic/new cars. Some like to stick to one brand others love it all. Some are so expensive the money they spend could feed 100’s of people. Everyone deserves to indulge and we’ve found the ones who do it the best.

Reggie Jackson has a passion for Chevrolet and set out to purchase every important engine Chevy ever made. Two of the cars in his collection are a1969 ZL1 COPO Camaro, and a 1941 Willys Steel Coupe.

Ralph Lauren loves the European classics. When he first started out as a fashion designer he purchased a 1971 Mercedes-Benz 280SE 3.5 convertible.

Shaq is all about the custom cars. Sometimes you have to do some custom work to a car when you are over seven feet tall. Shaq owns a Superman Cadillac Escalade, and a Smart ForTwo convertible, stretched Lamborghini Gallardo.

Even the ladies like to get in the game. Missy Elliott owns a Purple Lamborghini Diablo. One of many cars that she owns.

Kanye loves the European supercars. His most notable cars are a Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren, and an Aston Martin DB9.

stones

Do rock stars ever retire? With the likes of Neil Young, Paul McCartney, Bob Dylan and of course the quintessential dinosaurs, The Rolling Stones (whose Steel Wheels Tour was referred to as the Steel Wheelchair tour even as far back as 1989), that would be a resounding NO as far as they are concerned. The best of the best rockers from the 60’s, 70’s and even 80’s are still touring all over the world. Of course, the days of hauling your own gear and traveling in used vans are over. Private Jets and tricked out tour buses certainly make the journey a lot easier, but the majority of the older rocker group haven’t had a hit in years.

Touring for a new album can be hard for the most popular bands because the crowd wants to hear the classics. Now many “senior” bands don’t need a new album to go on tour. Unfortunately, these are often called “sell out tour.” The other unfortunate factor is that bands like The Stones and U2 ask astronomical prices for a single ticket. The price for a U2 ticket run you $280.00 for decent seats. For Rolling Stones tickets, you can get obstructed view and nose bleed seats for almost $50.00. For floor seats, you will pay between 166.45 to  $424.35 with fees. Your best bet is to hope for a live stream and watch from home or shell out the money for a festival that could very well include both bands, not to mention many more, for under $400.00. People will pay the astronomical prices for these concerts. Hardcore music lovers don’t want to miss out on what could be the last tour of their favorite band’s career. Paul McCartney seems to always be touring, and even bands who have gone through very public fights, like Fleetwood Mac and the Eagles, are biting the bullet and going on tour. The financial gain can be very inspiring.

Not all musicians are “selling out” and hitting the road. Some are quite content with retirement. Grace Slick of Jefferson Airplane retired and once said, “all rock-and-rollers over the age of 50 look stupid and should retire.” Slick last toured with her band in 1989 and the now 72-year-old rocker is concentrating on a visual art career.

David Bowie stopped touring in 2007, after canceling a comeback show in New York City. No reason was given for the cancelation, but he is often seen around New York on the streets or at events with his wife supermodel Iman appearing in good health.

We can assume the reasons for going on tour even for an Anniversary tour and not to promote a new album. The amount of money a band can make by touring can rival that of the profits of a successful tech company. One year of touring could feed a small country. Very tempting. As for the bands and individuals who chose to retire and aren’t tempted by the monies involved are thinking more about the time involved and regardless of the private jets and fancy buses, it still can be a grueling experience.

All-in-all, the best part of live music is when you get the opportunity to see the bands you love in a small venue. I’m sure the people who got to see Nirvana at a house party in Seattle will cherish that memory more than seeing Fleetwood Mac at an arena. Not everyone gets such an experience, but it truly is a much better memory than that of watching ant-like people on a stage blocked by speakers from the rafter seats that cost a week’s salary.
