Beach House at First Unitarian Concert Review

Dear Beardy:

Don’t get me wrong, I have lusted after many a bearded fella in the past year or so but it’s too much now. The trend of the long beard that you can’t seem to let go of needs to end. There are too many of you walking the streets and now that plaid shirts are all the rage it’s just overkill. Leave the bearded flannel plaid and wool slouchy hat look to the Canadian lumberjack. It’s just not working for the hipster boys working at the local coffee shop and vinyl record stores. Besides, it’s starting to become difficult to distinguish between you and the registered pedophiles on the street. Who is the real wierdo with the beardo?  We use to know but not so much anymore, think of it as a public service and make a difference in your community.

A little facial hair is great, but there should be a rule that a beard should never be so long that it could obstruct your vision if a big gust of wind were to take you by surprise. Come on guys, we’ve been so patient waiting for you to get thru the “patchy” phase and identifying what you had for breakfast by the left over contents. Please, no more mismatched facial and head hair colors. How many men out there have brown hair but grow ginger beards? Way too many! The valance really should  match the tier curtain, just sayin’.

Give us back your smooth baby soft skin, your chiseled  jaws and your cleft chin, and by the way your Mother called and asked me to write this….don’t break her heart.

Miss your face,

C-

New Yorkers

Opinion: Just Another Day In New York

Alan Colmes Contributor

AOL News

(May 3) — There’s an old New York joke about Shakespeare in the Park; Central Park, that is. Hamlet is being performed. During the death scene, the entire audience leaves. They didn’t want to get involved.

Thankfully, that wasn’t the case when three New York street vendors heard or saw something suspicious and alerted police to a Pathfinder that might have exploded. And nine years after a hole was blasted in the ground at the World Trade Center, and in our hearts; and a few days after a car bomb almost exploded in Times Square, life goes on, as usual.

New Yorkers are a rare breed, not quite like overly polite Southerners, kindly Midwesterners or sunny Californians, but part of, to paraphrase former Mayor David Dinkins, a great mosaic that is America. Constructed to endure; built for speed, not for comfort; aware that their slice of the land may be a bit rougher around the edges.

We’re talking about a tough town. In New York, you know you’ve had a good day when you’re able to find a parking spot. Cab rides sometimes resemble bumper cars. It often takes longer to get to the airport than to get to your destination once you board the plane. Another New York joke goes: A man walks up to a stranger to ask directions. “Excuse me, sir, could you please tell me how to get to the Empire State Building, or should I just go f*** myself?”

But the truth is, New Yorkers have hearts of gold; underneath the crusty exteriors are the kind of people, like those street vendors, who care very much about the world around them, about their fellow citizens.

And New York can boast about one of the finest police departments in the nation. We’ve lived through brownouts, blackouts and, not without deep loss and heartbreak, 9/11.

President George W. Bush was mocked after that tragedy for saying, two weeks later, “Get down to Disney World in Florida. Take your families and enjoy life, the way we want it to be enjoyed.”

It was the best thing he could have said. That was the day George W. Bush and the rest of America became New Yorkers.

A 29-year-old man from the Isle of Wight has said that he fears somebody is following him on the microblogging site Twitter.

‘It all began when someone replied to a post I made, saying ‘me too’,’ said James Crowthorn, who lives in Sandown. ‘It happened a few times for different tweets. It’s a bit weird – like someone on the internet is paying attention to what I’m saying.’

Mr Crowthorn says he keeps looking over his shoulder to see if anyone is watching, but this means that he is unable see his monitor at the same time. ‘I’m getting a bit nervous about that, too,’ he admitted, ‘because sometimes I get the feeling people can see me, as if there’s some sort of camera connected up to my computer. It’s terrifying – the thought that someone somewhere could have a picture of my face in some sort of book. I’m very worried about my privacy, as I was saying on my YouTube channel just yesterday.’
